Over the years WordPress has evolved from a blogging platform to one of the best content management systems (CMS) out there. Unfortunately, after the site is live and running many people “set it and forget it”. And it is not necessarily their fault, they just haven’t been advised of the maintenance which comes along with owning a WordPress.
Is WordPress bad?
WordPress is excellent and I highly recommend it. In fact, for SEO, it is the best platform out there for personal injury lawyers for a plethora of reasons.
WordPress is sort of like the Windows operating system. It is extremely popular, so it is targeted by hackers the most. Also, it has frequent updates- run the updates and you’re protected; don’t run them and you’re vulnerable. Also, it has several plugins (add ons) which carry their own security vulnerabilities and risks.
How do I know if my site is compromised?
Hacked WordPress websites exhibit different behaviors depending on the attack and goal of the attacker. Here are some symptoms:
- You receive an error in Google Search Console
- Your website tries to infect people using a cell phone
- Your blog has advertisements for casinos on it
- In Google search results you see an error which reads “This site may harm your computer.”
- In Google search results you see an error which reads “This site may be hacked.”

Is this bad for SEO?
If you can quickly remedy the problem you will be fine. Even if Google knows about the problem, you can repair it and them let them know that it is fixed. The same goes for Bing. Unless the problem lasts for a long period of time, it should not affect your rankings.
Left unrepaired, Google, Bing, and other search engines will eventually take your website out of search results.
