If you have ever dove in to your Google Analytics Dashboard you may have been surprised your traffic jumping around all over the place.
Rest assured, this is not normal.
What is Referrer Spam?
Referrer spam pollutes your traffic statistics. The goal here is that you wil log in and think to yourself “Oh, wow, SuperDuperSEO.com is sending me 25 visitors a day!” and then go to the website and purchase their ineffective services.
Of course, if you do not dig in to your referral traffic you simply scratch your head and wonder why your traffic is so random.
What should your traffic look like?
Most of the time, when I log in to the Google Analytics Dashboard of a personal injury site I expect to see a fairly consistent pattern of traffic up Monday through Friday and then dipping back down on Saturday and Sunday.

Below is what a personal injury website’s traffic looks like when they have not filtered the spam. Unfortunately, about 50% of this traffic count needs to be shaved off. The statistics from this view are essentially useless and misleading.
Both of these websites belong to attorneys practicing in California. Big difference.
