The extension of a domain name is called a TLD, or Top Level Domain.
In October of 2014 multiple new TLDs were released, including .lawyer.
Should you use a .Lawyer TLD?
It depends. If you have a personal reason for doing so you could always get one and redirect it to your .COM domain.
Here are some reasons to not get one:
- People are confused by them. The average person has absolutely no idea what a TLD is and they do not want to learn, either.
- It won’t help with SEO. Google engineer Matt Cutts stated that TLDs get no special or preferential treatment.
- They could be bad for SEO. I do not have a scientific explanation to back this up but I just never see them in search results. Do you?
