Here’s a content idea for creators of personal injury content: data visualizations of bicycle accidents.
“You are here” is a project of the Social Computing Group at MIT’s Media Lab. On their FAQ page, the group states that they are doing this because “it is fun”. They map much more than bicycle accidents. In addition, they say:
…we feel that maps can help people to make their city a better place. Mapping where bike crashes occur might encourage cities to put separated bike lanes where there are lots of crashes. Mapping coffee shops walkingsheds might help the aspiring coffee shop entrepreneur decide where to place her shop. And mapping greenery in the city might encourage people to plant trees where there are none…
These maps may be embedded on your website, just like a YouTube video.
If you do not wish to use them, they are still very useful. For example, if we look at the Los Angeles bicycle accident map, we can quickly see that the most dangerous roads for bikers are Olympic Blvd, Venice Blvd, and Sunset Blvd.
There are many other useful maps, such as this one, which shows the fastest mode of transportation in Brooklyn.
